Life loses half its interest if there is no struggle — if there are no risks to be taken.” – Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose

Our nation has had various influential people whom we often forget to acknowledge. Notable personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Chandrashekhar Azad, etc are the light of our eyes and due to their sacrifice, we can breathe the happy air of independence.

We all hear stories about freedom struggles in India’s history but there are very few people who end up getting inspired to follow in their footsteps.

Arav Bhardwaj has raised the bar. His little feet cannot be stopped!

He cycled 2600 km in just 32 days from the two most historically significant locations of India’s Freedom struggle. With sheer determination, he, along with his father Dr. Atul Bhardwaj embarked on this journey to pay their respects on the twin occasion of the 125th Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and the 75th Year of Independence (Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav).

A little boy from Delhi, studying in Doon Public School attempted an unimaginable feat that children nowadays don’t usually try. He has become a motivator for all the children out there to not only learn more about our nation’s golden history but also show gratitude towards those heroes who sacrificed their lives to free India from the Britishers.

The father-son duo started this extraordinary bicycle ride on the 14th of April from the Indian National Army (INA) Memorial, Moirang, Imphal. The yatra was flagged off by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Manipur Shri N. Biren Singh. They cycled through Meghalaya, Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, UP, and Haryana, and finally reached the War Memorial, India Gate, New Delhi on 15th May 2022.

The INA memorial is historically significant since Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, as Commander-in-Chief of the INA raised the Indian tricolour for the first time here.

War Memorial in Delhi is a national monument built to honor and remember soldiers of the Indian military who fought in the armed conflicts of independent India.

The news of their courageous act has reached all over India. Several dignitaries felicitated Arav and his father on the occasion of World Bicycle Day on June 3rd, 2022. Mr. Anurag Thakur, the Minister of Sports, Youth Affairs, and Minister of Information and Broadcasting. Earlier, he was also felicitated by his school teachers and friends – Doon Public School, New Delhi.

Arav says, “Our Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, the great hero of the Indian Freedom Struggle is my ideal and, in his memory, I wanted to do something very special as this year our nation is celebrating the 125th Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Also, this happens to be the 75th Anniversary of India’s Freedom. Thus, I decided to undertake a 2600 km Bicycle Yatra from INA Memorial, Moirang, Manipur to National War Memorial at India Gate, New Delhi - two very significant locations to pay tributes to our freedom struggle heroes. I could complete this 2600 km Yatra in 32 eventful days because of the inspiration from our war heroes. My family, their friends & well-wishers wholeheartedly supported the Bicycle Yatra in a big way and my respected father Dr. Atul Bhardwaj who all the way rode alongside gave me real strength & support.

My special thanks to truCSR for their support in my journey especially Dr. Anil Rishiraj, one of the truCSR Directors who personally blessed me and offered his Best Wishes to us on 14th April 2022, when the Bicycle Yatra was flagged-off by Shri N. Biren Singh the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Manipur from INA memorial, Moirang, Manipur”

There is a lot to learn from Arav. The ten-year-old boy, through his dedication and deep desh bhakti, has given us a reminder to keep our war heroes alive in our thoughts and sentiments and to honour their sacrifice. Never let the patriot in you die!
